Property, Construction & Living in Guanacaste
Guanacaste is Costa Rica's northwestern province, on the Pacific coast and bordering Nicaragua. Its beach towns and inland communities draw homeowners, builders and people relocating from around the world.
The province has a pronounced dry season — roughly December to April — and is served by the international airport in Liberia. Coastal communities include Tamarindo, Nosara, Playas del Coco and Sámara.

Good to know before you hire
- Building near the beach: land close to the high-tide line falls under Costa Rica's maritime-terrestrial zone rules. Ask a property lawyer before you commit.
- Water availability and permits matter in drier areas. Discuss them early with your architect or builder.
- Long dry seasons and strong sun affect materials and maintenance. Ask contractors how they plan for both.
